Nick’s Game Diary Week of Feb. 11, 2024

A weekly diary of the things I’m doing and digging.

We had to delay a little to not break embargo on Banishers, but new ep out now! Thanks again to Mike and Jaymo, over at The Old Switch-A-Roo Podcast!

Balancing my feelings on a game between these journal entries and the podcast is tougher than I thought it would be. Going to not care as much and get the words down on the page. If I repeat myself on the podcast, so be it.

All that to say, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden feels like the perfect companion piece to Transistor. Both games contain a dead companion/lover who helps you through combat and unlocks additional abilities. Where Transistor explores the things we leave behind after we die and how those things are exploited, Banishers’ explores the ways people exploit each other and how those interactions haunt the living and the dead. You can read my full review on Game Chronicles.

Banishers is a pleasant surprise with some minor kinks. Give it a go knuckleheads.

This work relationship is going to be a paperwork nightmare.

Pour one out for the fan boys.

Very timely with today’s PlayStation news and the pending “Xbox Doom.”

No recording tonight with Josh. We’re pushing to tomorrow. The man has fallen down the Nuclear Blaze rabbit hole. I feel bad, cause I got him hooked on that drug.

Another day, another Hard Drive article!

Get gud!

The Xbox update is out. Going to watch right now. Let’s see how this goes. Be right back.

Back. Folks were over reacting last week and that 22-minute podcast magnifies that. Four games going multiplatform. They’re not announcing the games out of respect of the devs, but let’s be honest, those announcement dates are already set. The games are no secret either. Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. Those are the ones that seem to be rolling around. Much more believable than the Starfield and Indy rumors making their rounds last week. Those four games I mentioned seem poised to make a splash wherever they end up. Hi-Fi Rush is a callback to cartoony PS2-era games with great music. Pentiment is in my backlog. It’s one of those games I started, but just fell off hard. Grounded and Sea of Thieves are perfect candidates to make the leap to other consoles. Those games live and die by the numbers. Can the fan boys calm down now?

Recording is pushed to the weekend. Just had something come up for one of my pilots and I need to put some work in tonight.

Three days of Hard Drive articles in a row! I remember wanting to write for this site for the longest time. I’m excited to finally get the opportunity to do so. I’m still bummed I missed out on writing with some of the old talent on Hard Drive, but it’s cool to watch those guys branch out and do their own thing.

Pikachu’s work keycard stopped working.

More reviews coming next week. Currently playing Ultros, Kingpin: Reloaded, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Inkulinati. Keep an eye out for those reviews. I am ready to get back on my own game list!
