A New Home for the Podcast

We started Smashing Game Time when I moved back to St. Louis in 2021. We had no idea what we were doing (and in some cases still don’t). The show started out as a full recap of all the game releases in a calendar year. Thankfully we pulled away from that format when we joined Trident, instead focusing on a different quarter of a year with each episode. We speedcapped, ranted, and even did a bit of Tiktoking. While those things didn’t last, they paved the road for the show in it’s current form. I mean just look at this first episode compared to where we are now.

We’re brothers who do this for fun. There’s nothing like hopping on the mics to talk about what we’ve been playing and what’s going on in the industry. Doing this with my brothers for the last two years has been a joy and I hope we get to keep doing it until my kids bury me in the yard.

“So why a new website? You’re a podcast.”

I want a home for everything we’ve been doing. The show is floating around the web on its RSS feed and on YouTube. It’s doing great in those places, but I think it’s time we have a place where people can find us that isn’t a social media platform. I think the last twelve months has shown us all just how “made of sticks” some of those sites can be. Instead of creating an account on Bluesky, Threads, and whatever other random sites pop up, were going to just plant our flag here.

I also want to do some more writing in the games space. Josh and I have been writing reviews off-and-on for the last two years around the web, why not here? We won’t do anything like news, but we would like to keep writing reviews. I also want to take a stab at some game journals on the site. Just something where readers can keep up with each host on a weekly basis.

We’ve still got some work on the backend to get the site fully running, so please mind our dust as we work through it. I’m working on getting every episode onto the website. For now we’ve got some of the recent interviews we’ve had with some talented indie developers.

This is an exciting time for the show! We hope you’ll join us for it.
